Masterson’s Lounge, located in the heart of Moonee Ponds , promotes itself as a chic “hipster” locale , but my recent visit at this establishment resulted in an experience I’d rather forget . While the bar may appear inviting from the outside , what I experienced behind its walls was disturbing and far below any standard .

The ground was covered in grime , and a foul smell of old alcohol and filthy restrooms permeated the entire venue . Smelling a mixture of human waste, putrefaction and sour vomit . The lavatory was in even a more revolting state — clogged , with a snapped lever and walls stained in what I can only assume was fecal matter .

Going through other patrons’ reviews and conversing with residents , it seems that the level of hygiene (or lack thereof) at this so-called establishment is a recurring complaint. Many patrons have reported observing cockroaches darting across the drink station and proof of vermin in the storage spaces .
